Is reproduction a right or privilege?

This should be the view that irresponsible people bringing life into this world that they cannot hope to support.

This should be the view that irresponsible people bringing life into this world that they cannot hope to support.

Over the past few weeks, a woman on welfare with six children (some disabled) conceived by in-vitro insemination decided it was very wise to have an additional eight from the same process. At the same time, I get petitioned to “help the poor children” (in America of all places).

We shouldn’t exclude ourselves from natural processes

Humans, because of our ability to create a relatively stable environment somehow think we are completely immune from natural processes. They range from evolution (which is still happening by the way) and natural selection (survival of the fittest). There are a host of other ones but these are the two I wish to focus upon.

Evolution and Natural Selection

Evolution is a process by which our genes, like a combination lock, are recalibrated by random chance and environmental influences to be different each time we procreate. Think of the “optimal human” as a key to get into a door, each generation procuded will either be closer to being able to open the door or not, those who are closest, through natural selection, will eventually develop the genetic profile that allows their “key” to open the door. This may happen in one or two generations or thousands, but changes (progress or otherwise) is constant.  Just look around you and you will see both the positive and detrimental results of these recombinations.

Disgraceful woman

Although I deeply respect women, I cannot find anything positive in a woman who is screwing both the social welfare system and seeking fame at the same time by having children that she had no hope of both conceiving naturally and taking care of once reality hit. On one side, you have deeply religious people who say it’s a blessing from God that she had so many kids (I guess God, not the doctor, gave her a prescription for clomid and artificially inseminated her too). On the other side, realists who sacrificed themselves to have kids that they could afford, limiting their family size out of common sense. So, the question must be asked, what should have happened?

My opinion

Let’s recap, a woman who is unable to support one child much less 14, coming from a disfunctional home with no hope in hell of ever becoming anything unless her ovaries were artificially stimulated and uterus impregnated. What I think should happen is two fold. First, she should be given a tent and a hundred dollars along with a bus fare to anywhere she wants in the United States to live-out her life in misery, obscurity and regret. People who cheat the public, social systems and media deserve no less. Second, her children should be separated (though kept in contact) in loving families and her grand parents not allowed any visitation rights. I fail to see how anybody from that family can be a positive role model for these children. If she was in nature, she would be dead along with all her children, there is no way a single mother could ever gather enough fruits and vegetables to provide for such a large family without relying heavily on others. The doctor that inseminated her should have his license revoked and forced to sell everything he has, which is put into a trust fund to take care of the 14 children and provide them with a college education when they get older so this cycle isn’t repeated. I would give the doctor the same as the mother, a hundred bucks and a free bus ticket. The worst thing that can happen is the life lessons of both the mother and grand parents are taught to young children.

Pointing to larger problems

I think this whole situation points to a larger problem, that of education, lack of forethought and reproductive sciences in general. Just because you can have children, does that mean you should? Contraceptive education is a must for all children starting in day care in my opinion but it needs to go further into the area of responsibility. Sex is fun and easy but if you are unable to handle the consequences, not an activity you should partake in. Governments so far have been shy to this except in Europe, which is suffering it’s own problems as well. A young 12 year old boy recently became a father with a 14 year old girl in England… huh? The fact that this happens around the world indicates there is a deep dysfunction in far too many parents out there who are not teaching responsibility but “hey, if you can get others to pay for your mistakes, it’s alright”. This is happening everyday, around the world, people having children they cannot hope to take care of, it’s a multi-generational crisis even larger than the financial one as it affects people lives in an even more tangible way.

I sense an overall sense of depression no matter where I go in the world, I am not depressed but no matter where I go, I see people who have lost all hope of having the life of their dreams and hate what they have become, but that’s a subject for another day.

Reproduction a right or privilege?

So, is having a child a right or privilege? I believe it’s a privilege and absolutely not a right. If you are unable to take care, nurture and live-up to the responsibilities of being a parent, if you have a child, it should be given away to a family that can, with or without your concent. The only right you have is to allow your child to have the optimal living environment, if that isn’t you, the kid is gone. I believe this would solve many problems in our society because it would act as a lesson to others and more importantly, offer a positive living environment for the child to break the cycle of poverty and negative thought that comes from people who shouldn’t be having children in the first place.

The Bottom Line

If you can’t take care of it, don’t have or take it.

2847: Going Science Fiction

It’s been pretty busy here, the new 1TB hard drive is here and rendering what seems to be an endless queue of animations for WoodMarvels.com, in full HD no less :-) My second book’s draft is off to the printers and yet again, I have some extra time so I decided to jump right into my third book.

My first book, “WoodMarvels.com Top Sellers” showcased a bunch of blueprints for wooden projects, my second “Turning your life from blah to Legendary” was motivational and should be available sometime in April in time for the launch of LegendaryLife.com so it only makes sense that the third book will be a science fiction novel set in the year 2847. I have set myself no deadlines, it’s done when it’s done.

The Bottom Line

A great way to be productive is the have multiple hobbies which you can cycle through and not fear jumping head first into something you never did before!

Multimedia Review: Steroids Saved My Life (part 3)

I am crossing my fingers that Peter begins to acquire some common sense from people outside of his “Three Stooges” team. Once again, I am not a doctor and have no formal education other than my university biology degree and decades of studying health, fitness and nutrition.

Episode 7 – Peter Balboa

  • day 47, dosage of steroids has been increased (from what to what I would like to know, even a % would be nice)
  • Mr. Fantastic’s advice of not stacking on your first cycle is dead-on! He does know a thing or two about steroids… finally a real FACT in this entire series! The reason stacks (taking more than one steroid) during a cycle is a waste of time and money is because your receptors are clean so you are fine gaining on just testosterone, only people who have a few cycles under their belt stack
  • more steroids = more food = more workouts = more stupidity = more chances of ending-up in the hospital with something being seriously torn = going back to the weight he started off with
  • yet again, Peter is showing off his little bag of pills… let the liver and endocrine damage continue!
  • Mr. Fantastic says people stacking on their first cycle are “fucking morons”, good advice! Now we know that Peter is NOT taking advice from Mr. Fantastic and in this instance, he really should have. Not only did Peter not know this vital piece of information but now he is switching around his cycle mid-stream… this train wrek is only getting worse!
  • day 50, Peter says he is starting to have anger issues (???), this is nonesense
  • his friend Davin slapped him in the face to which Peter said he was going to kill him, this isn’t ‘roid rage
  • Peter is feeling bigger and stronger and is flowing with energy now, I am sure he could have achieved this without steroids at all, what happened is his body went from a state of stagnation into one of rejuvenation, this has more to do with exercise and eating well than steroids.
  • Mr. Fantastic is really starting to sound like he knows his stuff! He states Sylvester Stalone was (is) on juice (HGH is what he has admitted so far) probably once he hit Rocky 2.
  • Drinking raw eggs is a wonderful way to get sick, I did this a lot too but have since stopped, I cook my eggs now (maybe the stomach flew he had a few weeks ago was from the raw eggs)
  • Peter needs to spend less money on supplements and more on buying a shirt
  • Davin says steroids may cause pimples, which is true but from the people I have talked to, they seem to get it more on their back than on their face when on a cycle
  • the more I hear Davin talk, the more I agree with Peter!
  • Mr. Fantastic says there isn’t anything really wrong with taking orals other than it having to pass through your liver while injectables go directly into the bloodsteam… not entirely true, your liver processes the drug afterwards so orals get processed twice while injectables once
  • video of Mr. Fantastic taking a shot of juice (DECA 300) in the shoulder, he used alcohol which is very smart on the injection site
  • week 7, about two months, he is up 20 pounds now
  • Peter and Mr. Fantastic are positive Micheal Phelps is on the juice, I can’t agree on this, IOC standards are incredibly strict with a huge anti-doping and random testing mechanism since the whole Ben Johnson affair
  • a woman states that people take protein, vitamins and other supplements so steroids can’t be anymore dangerous. This is WRONG because steroids is a hormone, protein is not nor do other supplements, just look at female bodybuilders to see the effect of hormone injections
  • Mr. Fantastic thinks that Peter will lose only 10% of his gains at the end of the cycle, I got to agree only if he keeps eating like he is and slacks off on the exercise routine along with proper post cycle clomid therapy only due to the fact that his gains were due to a former life of malnutrition and lack of physical activity, his age also helps big time too
  • Mr. Fantastic is giving some very good advice now, if Peter continues to improve his training, diet and motivation he will keep most of what he got
  • “Yah for steroids… they’re so great!”, I wonder if Peter will think the same when he gets off
  • more pictures of him without a shirt… arg!

Episode 8 – Mission Roid

  • Peter Brown is Canadian, filming out of Vancouver
  • day 54, more “Peter talk” about why he is so cool and smart to do what he is doing
  • Peter says one of the major side-effects of steroids is that you get a tan (???), and I thought it was due to him running around in the sun without sunscreen or t-shirt
  • Peter going to a tanning salon, yet another extremely stupid move, he must figure that screwing-up your endocrine system isn’t enough, time for some skin cancer too by using a tanning bed and running around town without a t-shirt!
  • Tanning girl says people should be tanning 3-4x a week, this is the stupidest and most dangerous thing I have heard in this show so far!
  • interview with Peter’s dealer, if I remember correctly, a few episodes ago, he was talking about how smart he was by getting steroids from a doctor because then you know where the stuff is coming from, yet he doesn’t follow his own advice and goes with a steroid dealer (???). My only guess is that his doctor refused to give him steroids because that would only have made his problems worse, not better.
  • day 58, he is at 158 pounds and is hoping to gain another 10 pounds by the time the cycle is over… far below his original goal of gaining a total of 42 pounds.
  • Peter says he took steroids to “overcome lifelong challenges” that have affected him, I thought he took them to gain 42 pounds and become a ladies man?
  • Peter can’t figure-out why people are yelling at him while he does bicep curls… maybe it’s his lack of proper form along with far too little weight?
  • a shot of him lifting weight at the gym around the end with a barbell shows his form has not improved even with the use of a personal trainer, those weekend online personal training certificates are really paying-off!

Episode 9 – Roid Karate

  • arg… more topless shirt video of him, now in a Karate outfit (with a white belt no less… impressive!) I have a black belt in Karate and took it for 10 years when I was younger
  • day 61, his friends notice he went from extremely introverted to extremely extroverted, not sure if this is an improvement
  • Davin admits he can’t stand Peter anymore and I can’t stand neither of them
  • day 59, Peter says now that he has taken steroids and is a big man, he wants to be respected… he should have read this blog, respect is something you EARN, which, so far, I don’t see much of, hence none was given
  • Big Bear is looking worse as Peter is getting better… what’s up with that?
  • day 61, he hit the 160 pound plateau so he has lost some motivation at the gym, diet etc… now he has a girlfriend too!
  • Peter has replaced his red shorts for a topless Karate uniform! Arg!!!
  • week 1: 95 pound squats, week 9: 195 pounds, his thighs are now 24 inches
  • Big Bear says all the changes that Peter has gone through have more to do with his new lifestyle than steroids, I completely agree!
  • Peter now observes that he no longer has any problems, it’s everybody else who has problems now
  • his goal now is getting a girl, gaining 20 pounds and becoming an internet icon

Some thoughts so far

Just about everything Peter has done to change his life could have been done without the use of any steroids what-so-ever. During his transformation, he has acquired some very bad habits including not being able to wear a shirt and putting all his self-esteem into his little pink pills. I really hopes he comes to realize that he only used steroids as an excuse to do what he should have done long ago. He didn’t need them at 138 pounds and he surely doesn’t need them at 160 pounds either.

Real information about steroids, fitness and diet

If 50M people say a foolish thing, it’s still a foolish thing

We are here to Explore, Learn and Die... passing on our knowledge to future generations.

We are here to Explore, Learn and Die... passing on our knowledge to future generations.

There is a lot of herd mentality in this world, from religion and culture to the stock market… the excuses given for doing something counter to common sense is as pervasive and empty an act today as it was at the beginning of time.

If fifty million people say a foolish thing, it’s still a foolish thing.
> Bertrand Russell

I really hope that our species can get beyond the marketed trivialities that make up so-called “modern culture” into a more thorough understanding of what exactly we are and our purpose on this overgrown rock. It’s all to easy to forget how infinitely small a space we reside in compared to the vastness of the universe we all reside in.

What is our purpose?

Our role or purpose for being is to Explore, Learn and Die. The universe, for all its wonder, is not able to think of itself, it cannot explore itself, it’s like a fish trying to explore the world outside of its bowl. Our duty is to be that “second being” who can find delight in both the smallest detail and largest acts the universe has to offer to all of us though our perceptions. The universe is large for a reason, to give us an almost infinite tapestry to explore and learn from. We will ALL die, no way around it and I sadly don’t see this changing anytime soon so that brings us to the next question.

How do mortals explore infinity?

Let’s face it, our lives are like timers, not ticking clocks. The countdown began at the moment of conception from an unknown number and no matter what you do, it cannot be stopped from beeping -zero- at a surprise date sometime in the future. So, how do you explore the infinite wisdom and beauty that our universe has to offer within the bonds of a mortal life? You pass-on your knowledge and wisdom to the next generation. This is the most selfless of acts, is there a cure for cancer? Absolutely, but most likely, it won’t be solved within your generation but work you do NOW will better equip future generations to solve the issue of the body attacking itself. EVERYTHING, even the disease of mortality facing all of us has a cure… we just haven’t found it yet… it’s just a matter of time before we uncover these secrets.

Why is culture a distraction?

I love the different cultures found around the world, they are the spice that makes life interesting, but I wished others appreciated them for what they are, difference in perception but not of our substance. At the end of the day, a human is a human, nothing more, nothing less. It seems to me that culture seems endlessly intertwined with religion and sadly, used as a tool for division instead of unification among people. It’s used as an instrument of suppression and acceptance instead of exploration and questioning. Culture should be about respecting the past while creating a better future, not the means for a government to keep the peasants from revolting. At the end of the day, we are ALL THE SAME! The only thing that makes us different is our perception and nothing else. I could have just as easily been born in a small nomadic Saharan tribe 20 000 years ago as I could have been born a million years from now on some remote colonial outpost. The point is that birth is completely random, independent of time or space. The fact that you are reading this right now is purely chance, there is nothing divine or reason behind it… it just is.

Herd Mentality

People find comfort in being part of something larger than themselves, hence why just about every civilization has some sort of culture around it. If “I” am doing something that lack common sense, it makes “ME” feel good that “YOU” are also doing it… the more the merrier! You can see this in pubs, sporting events, the stock market, networking sites… the list is almost endless. People, for some reason, feel singled-out if they are doing something that somebody else, logically or otherwise, isn’t doing as well. So, I challenge you, right now, to spend the next week doing something different than everybody else around you. If you go to a pub, eat a hamburger instead of drinking a pint, come to work EARLY instead of on-time or even better, eat breakfast while others are eating lunch… why? Because it’s these little things that will give you joy and make others question why they are doing what they are doing… adding a little spice in an otherwise mindless culture of materialism.

The Bottom Line

Just because somebody else is doing something, doesn’t mean you need to as well.

Jon Cantin: Caretaker of the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef!

I am one of the 30 000 potential applicants to the Tourism Queensland competition for Caretaker of the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef position! Without delay, here is the video.

Video Transcript

My name is Jonathan Cantin and you’re looking at your next caretaker!

I have a University Degree in Biogeography, I studied everything from corals to rock formations and I’m also a teacher.

A little over two years ago, I sold everything I had for the paradise of Cairns, Australia on a Working Holiday Visa. I explored the local area and went up to Cape Tribulation with nothing but a tent and many cans of beans. I have had the pleasure of exploring Malaysia, Japan, South Korea and the Philippines, in addition to my home country, Canada!

I have a Pilot, motorcycle and golf cart Licenses, open water certificate as well as a black belt in Karate. I would love to be on Hamilton Island in August for the Hamilton Island Race Week.

I have been nominated for two Entrepreneur of the Year awards, one of which I won. In my spare time, I love designing on-demand products, motivating others with my blogs and mountain climbing. I am an avid photographer, enthusiastic writer, absolutely LOVE life and the opportunity it presents to me.

My home is the world and I thank you for your time and consideration!

I put a link to JonCantin.com on the video so the reviewing panel can easily find-out more about me and I can use the site to market myself for the wildcard position as well.

Applying Early

Originally, I was going to spent a few weeks making something absolutely amazing but after I saw news reports that Tourism Queensland may limit their applications to 30 000 entries, rightly or wrongly, I decided I simply couldn’t take the chance of having a great presentation with nowhere to send it to. They are swamped already, have applications coming from all corners of this world and my guess is that they can hit 30 000 absolutely anytime, including today.

About the Best Job in the World

Tourism Queensland is selecting one, very lucky person, from around the world, to work among one of the most beautiful regions and islands in Australia! I would LOVE the opportunity to be that person, hence why I applied. The job entails blogging, video production, publicity and a host of other things geared towards having both an amazing time and promoting the region as much as possible. The “job” includes a beautiful rent-free home during the six month, 150 000$AU contract in addition to experiences that will surely make whomever wins, headline news around the world. Throw instant fame into the mix and it’s no wonder why so many people are applying for this position that their servers crashed a few days ago processing the applicants!

Why I think I can get this position

To begin with, I have the educational background with a University Degree in BioGeography (Biology + Geography) and have taught people of all ages over the past decade. I am a self-starter who built many very innovative and successful companies that have a global reach and even better, I am young enough not to require living in a location near a hospital yet old enough to know my limits with a body that can do whatever I set my mind towards doing! I have extensive marketing experience both in direct sales and across many cultures as well. I love the outdoors, drove everything from a plane to a motorcycle and love adventure!

Where can YOU apply?

Competition is fun, the more people applying, the better it will be for all of us applying as it makes the achievement all the more spectacular should I be nominated to be the next Hamilton Island Caretaker. You can see a complete job description on the Tourism Queensland website and find out more about the job at Caretaker of the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef.
