Survival of the Fittest

Survival of the fittest“We are not tired at the end of the day because we get too much exercise. We are mentally, emotionally and physically drained from being sedentary. Walking through the door exhausted each night is not a living; it is merely surviving large stretches of the only life we’re likely to have.” - Dr. Henry Lodge from the book Younger Next Year: turn back your biological clock

Wow- what a powerful statement!

Excuses are just that- EXCUSES

Had a buddy tell me a few months back how he stopped exercising because he was simply too exhausted after work, had another friend who told me they where too busy for exercise- and the list goes on. I am sure you have heard this as well at your end, no matter what their justification, leading a sedentary lifestyle is simply a lazy excuse to not be active, to make it worse, it is a CHOICE!

Our bodies are meant for movement!

Try to imagine life 100 thousand years ago, before electricity, supermarkets or even any type of machinery – including agriculture. Life was tough! We where at the mercy of the climate, cycles of abundance and drought, never knowing if tomorrow we where eating or going to be eaten.

We where among the top predators, our lives where spent searching, hunting and gathering food- this involved walking and running for MILES each day, 7 days a week everyday of your life. Your only boss in life was your stomach! If your next meal was dependent on what you caught or found that day (remember, there is no refrigeration)- becoming obese is incredibly difficult even with amazing “bad” genes.

Survival Mechanisms – how our bodies work

If we did happen to sit around for a period of time, our bodies evolved to take that as a signal of famine, why else would you just sit there unless there was NOTHING to eat? Remember, there is no such thing as TVs, Computers, Internet or even a comfortable couch ;-) Lack of food- metabolism, critical functions, muscles breakdown (atrophy) and even your own mental alertness- they all slow down. Keep sitting there for an extended period of time- your body actually begins to decay and shut down- depression sets in and diseases get a leg up. Not a pretty sight, remember famine = little to no food- how does obesity occur in nature then? IT DOESN’T! You cannot gain weight by eating too little.

Now during abundance when your body is active, muscles, cartilage, tendons, mental alertness (you got to be smart to catch and find food) all get a boost. A BIG BOOST. This isn’t a time to be storing fat either, how can you run around if you got a 50lbs potbelly? All the extra food you consume gets used up for improvements, NOT FAT STORAGE. Unlike bears, we do not have a need for fat stores for hibernation or great migrations like other organisms, we do gain a little weight during cold seasons but it is only a little- not 50lbs!

I sincerely hope this makes sense to you, either way you cut it- obesity is incredibly difficult to attain and maintain naturally – it simply isn’t a natural state for the body to be in – EVER. This is why lack of interest in life, depression and energy reserves seem low no matter what you eat- your body is in full FAMINE MODE. When you eat during “famine mode”, what your body interprets that as meaning is you just found your last scrap of food, waste as little as possible! Remember, there are no restaurants on the Savanah.

By the way, pregnancy does cause a gain in fat stores, but NEVER OBESITY, there is no reason to keep your “baby fat” after having a child- you will naturally loose your fat stores. If you don’t- you are still over-eating during famine mode.

Use our survival mechanisms in our favor!

Here is a nice thought, our bodies have NOT EVOLVED to modern living, if you sit all day, even if you are surrounded by food, your body still thinks your in a famine situation. This is a survival mechanism developed over billions of years, and thank GOD we have it – it is among the most important gifts we have ever received!

Want to loose the extra pounds? DO NOT GO ON A DIET! DIET = FAMINE MODE = SLOW/SHUTDOWN YOUR BODY. A traditional diet is the worst thing ever “invented” by humans, marketed as a way to loose weight without exercise – completely counter productive as I have shown- it preys on your money and lack of knowledge for personal profit, providing NO SUSTAINABLE RESULTS! Don’t allow them turn you into their latest victim!

MOVE your body, walk for MILES, go for hikes, swim, play tennis, skip rope, get into weight lifting- anything- just MOVE. Hand-to-mouth does not count.

Healthy mind = Health body
Want to know what true famine is like- don’t eat a damn thing all day. That is how your body acts and feels without you knowing it – sad thing is you have gotten use to being in this state. Nothing speeds up aging, disease and decay like a crappy diet mixed with a lack of movement.

There is a lot of proven scientific evidence that there is a link between physical and mental performance. Remember, if you are in famine mode, mental performance declines and your body essentially shuts down, making you more prone to disease (mental, physical and physiological).

Which of the following diseases has a lower incidence of occurrence with regular physical exercise?
A) Alzheimer
B) Cardio-Vascular Disease, Heart Disease
C) Diabetes
D) All of the above

If you answered D, give yourself a pat on the back!

MOVING helps improve your circulatory system- of which your brain is the largest benefactor. By leading a sedentary lifestyle, you are slowly starving your brain of the resources it needs to strive (no wonder you are so tired)- since the brain doesn’t have any pain receptors, you will never know or feel it. But it IS occurring.

The plague of obesity on our society is caused by the adoption of a sedentary lifestyle, rarely (RARELY) genetics or disease. It is a CHOICE 99.9% of the time, not a disease or a condition- a CHOICE! More accurately – YOUR CHOICE!

The Bottom Line

You are never too old or “out of shape” to begin transforming your mind/body into a lean machine! I not only gave you this insight for FREE, but I also built an entire system to support your endeavors at NO COST to you- all I ask is that you use it anonymously! I hope I have taken away any excuses you may have for not getting into shape and staying that way.

Urine Therapy: Miracle to some, Disgusting to others

Hmmm...I try to stay relatively main-stream with the issues I write but a few weeks ago I got wind of something that I simply had a hard time believing. I thought somebody was joking – they where not. It seems an increasing number of people are becoming “urinophiles”, believing that drinking your own urine (outside of a survival situation) can cure everything from foot fungus to cancer. If that was not surprising enough, this has been in practice around the world in different cultures for thousands of years.

Personally, I find the practice of drinking my own fresh urine as appetizing as eating my own feces, and just as redundant but I believe there is always at least an ounce of truth in a belief. Lets explore this issue a little with an open mind.

What is urine?

Urine is made up mostly of water (95%) with the rest mostly being nitrogenous waste products from our kidneys. Essentially, what the body doesn’t need, absorb nor want is excreted in our urine. Urine is not a toxic or harmful substance but that doesn’t mean it’s healthy either.

Why drink your own urine?

The advocates of Urine Therapy (UT, amaroli) proclaim that there are thousands of highly beneficial substances within urine that are wasted if not re-consumed. In this aspect, they are correct. Urine does indeed contain creatine, vitamins, minerals, hormones etc. – if you ate or drank it – some of it is in your urine. If you read enough of their materials, they do make a pretty convincing case. They are able to point to valid scientific studies, thousands of years of use and many other facts. Nobody has ever died from urine consumption and to advocates; it is the closest thing we will ever get to a miracle product. Urine also has anti-bacterial, antiseptic, anti-viral, antibiotic and anti-fungal properties.

Why not drink your own urine?

First off, unless I am in a survival situation where water is scarce, if my body gets rid of something – it does so for a purpose beyond my reasoning, and I stand behind it. If my body is able to keep me alive and healthy, it knows what it is doing in my book. Unlike many other beliefs, advocates are correct in most of what they proclaim but the problem they encounter is two fold.

The main one to deal with is dilution. Sure, I cycle creatine powder as part of a good supplementary diet among many other substances, but it is in a concentration that can actually make a difference in my body. The concentration of any one substance within urine is simply insignificantly small unless you want to drink barrels of highly concentrated piss on a daily basis.

The second issue with urine consumption is that urine does not ONLY contain beneficial products. Toxic substances such as lead, arsenic and many other bi-products are also found in urine. Yes, these are also insignificantly small in concentration to essentially render them harmless.

Sum Total

The pro-camp says urine is a cure-all but negates to take into account the wildly small concentrations of any one substance present in urine. Although there isn’t any negative camp that I could find, I would tend to argue that if something has such a small concentration (good or bad), then what possible benefit could it give to the body above and beyond what a healthy diet can provide? I find the entire approach of “urinophiles” equivalent to trying to get drunk from one drop of alcohol.

The Bottom Line

I don’t see an overwhelming argument for urine “supplementation” nor against it – so why bother unless you are in a survival situation where it may save your life.

Drug use… who to blame?

Drugs Suck!Drugs form a very complex worldwide marketplace, you have legal vs illegal, expensive vs cheap, effective vs placebo and the characteristics are almost infinite. As Drugskilled.com is geared towards “illegal” drugs, it is where my focus will lie.

The Major Players

I think looking at an economic model of drugs will help put into better focus the issues involved with the cycle of drug use that form a continuous cycle of abuse, profit and pleasure.

Drug User: at the top of the drug chain, this person may do whatever is necessary to get their next “hit”, they consume at varying levels depending on their state of their addiction. They are the best customers anybody could have, as they NEED your product to cure them temporarily from what ails them.

Drug Pusher: this person is tantamount to a sales person, they provide for and build up a clientele for their products. The range and quantity/quality can vary greatly depending on supply/demand ratios.

Mule: in its various forms acts like a shipper, they get the product from point A to point B, evading capture and may invest heavily into the development of new shipping methods and procedures.

Cartel: considered the big boss, they source product from their various suppliers and get it ready for market. They usually have the largest investments; influence and resources of any other level and are not afraid to protect their market.

Farmer: from grow-ops to subsistence farmers trying to make a living, these people are essentially the harvesters of products.

There are usually various levels of middlemen throughout the above drug chain, each time a product changes hand, a markup occurs. This is why for instance a kilogram of cocaine from Columbia is sold by the farmer at 600$US is worth a staggering 30 000$US when it reaches the United States. Like any other market – there is fierce competition to stay on top at every level.

So – whom do you blame for the drug problem?

Any way you look at it, you got to blame the people at the top of the drug chain. You have an entire market driven by the need of the user, without the user, the entire market collapses on itself relatively quickly. The farmers would move to another crop, cartels would go “bankrupt” along with mules and drug pushers, as there wasn’t anything to sell.

I hope you can see that by changing perspective, finding out the source of the issue at hand is far easier. We all know the cost of drugs to society is far more complex then the simple one I have outlined.

Drugs Users Have ALL the power!

What is interesting though is that the people who feel like they have the least power actually have ALL the power. We tend to think of cartels as huge organizations, with global reach and influence- that is only made possible by the individual contributions of the sole drug user. It is the drug user that is controlling everything from distribution to consumption. A mule wouldn’t send out a shipment of heroin to Vancouver if there where no consumers there.

What is the solution?

If you want to solve a problem, you must go straight to the source. Going after cartels is as futile as going after the drug pushers (and anybody else in between). The profits and most importantly, the markets are still there and if you cut any of these levels off, it will grow back even more resilient then before due to DEMAND. Destroy the demand and everything else will take care of itself.

I still think drugs are illegal for a good reason, what I would suggest is a little genetic manipulation both to the crop and the end user.

I don’t see people smoking HEMP products to get high (you can’t), so why not do the same thing for other products? If people are able to create glow in the dark fish, we can surely create a version of coca (etc) that does not produce harmful compounds when processed.

The other half of the equation is the user, I have read of some drugs being used to counter the effects of opiates, which render them far less effective. Instead of spending billions on the “war on drugs” that seems to go absolutely nowhere, spend that money in developing drugs that only need to be injected once. If the user tries the drugs again, nothing will happen and they will quickly “kick the habit”. If you cannot derive any pleasure from drug use, then you will no longer want to use it.

The Bottom Line

If you want to crash a market- simply make their products either unwanted or ineffective.
