Trust is earned, not given

Trust is Earned, not givenSadly, most people choose to allow marketing to educate them about their own health. From “alternative medicines” that say they can cure everything from the common cold to cancer to bogus “medical” certifications given to anybody with money and a free weekend.

Profiting from the weak & dying

Hope is all you have when you are sick, finding out you have been scammed and cheated out of hard earned money is just deplorable. I don’t know how people who knowingly cheat others of hope can sleep at night. No wonder many people have lost hope in improving themselves and their bodies, just about every worthless piece of trash out there that promises them big changes in their bodies with little or no work is trusted into their consciousness. When will people realize that there is no magic pill or product that will cure them from bad lifestyle choices?

Who would say no to becoming GOD?

If you find the cure (or vaxxine) for AIDS, you are guaranteed a Nobel Prize, more money then you can spend in multiple lifetimes and worldwide fame – INSTANTLY. Your face will be plastered everywhere and you will be regarded as a living GOD. Who wouldn’t want this? I absolutely would- but I sure as hell wouldn’t be on a late night infomercial or in a booth selling this potion at $19.99 and telling people the reason why I am not at the U.N. doing a speech in front of the world is because the evil pharmaceutical industry is against me.

If big pharmaceuticals still haven’t found the cure to a common disease after spending billions of dollars and decades in research, a person with a marketing firm behind them probably isn’t something you should take too seriously.

Deception creeps from under a rock

I recently read an article on abcnews.com about Kevin Trudeau, whose “cure everything” infomercials try to masquerade themselves as a non-biased late night talk show. Although the format and focus is actually quite effective from a marketing standpoint, I never believed for one second what he was saying. If it sounds too good to be true – it usually is, especially when money is involved.

How to protect yourself

quackwatch.org, I find this site absolutely fantastic and I wish I found it years ago. It gives you a glimpse of the market forces out there in addition to actually researched articles for but mostly against “proven” products and services. Although I may not agree with everything, I believe it is definitely a site you should visit to learn more about your conditions and products you may have used in the past or still using. I don’t believe science is the answer to everything, I believe its track record is by far better then the “alternative”. I still take my supplements religiously even if it does end up being just an expensive sugar pill – it makes me fell better at the very least :

Another site you should also add to your bookmark list is Infomercialscams.com, its great to read about people who feel they where scammed out of the promises they where sold. Next time you’re tempted in purchasing an infomercial product, visit this site first.

Trust is earned, not given

Let common sense prevail, if you go to a trade show, watching TV or hear an influential speaker tell you what you want to hear but for a price, be not only skeptical but question them. Rest assured you are definitely not the only one with concerns about a product.

People selling bogus products are usually very slick and will easily be able to convince you, some even have medical degrees, PhDs and other high levels of education. No matter their education, background or how nice they may appear, do not give your trust out so blindly – trust must be earned, not given.

The Bottom Line

If you want to achieve something in life, you must work towards it. Money can buy many things but there are no shortcuts towards achieving good health.

The purest water comes from… STEAM!

Give me STEAM anyday! For the past 6 years, I have been producing my own pure water at a fraction of bottled water using city water. If you want to be healthy, you got to start with the quality of your water as it is essential for just about every bodily function.

Reverse Osmosis VS Distillation

For me, the choice was easy, the two leading methods of water purification are reverse osmosis and distillation. The main advantage to reverse osmosis is that it uses filters, which means you can produce water, as you need it. This is also a huge drawback because you need to keep buying these filters and my guess is that water quality slowly degrades as the filters fill up with gunk. The other method, distillation, uses no filters and simply captures the steam from boiling the water in an enclosed capsule. The huge advantage to this is you purchase it once without any ongoing expense other then electricity but the disadvantage is you may have to wait for the water (run it over night and this isn’t a problem).

If you review studies done on effective water quality of these systems, distillation is hands down the most efficient way to produce the highest quality water for you and your family. You can get this information freely by contacting a distilled water products manufacturer or distributor

Distilled water controversy

There seems to be a controversy regarding drinking distilled water, the main one is you ONLY have H2O (2 Hydrogen atoms and 1 Oxygen atom), everything is taken out – including minerals and fluoride. This is the reason why I bought mine in the first place! I want all that stuff out of my water! Since when is water considered as a way to supplement an inadequate diet? Toothpaste has fluoride by the way ;-)

I have also heard that distilled water is bad for your organs as it leaches out minerals from your own body, this is a property that all water types have – the hydrogen and oxygen molecules making up water hate being alone. Generally speaking, the purer the water, the more aggressive an absorber it becomes (both toxic and helpful ones to the body) BUT a healthy diet provides more then enough nutritional compounds for the body to offset this loss. If you want to start comparing leaching agents, alcohol and carbonated drinks are far more effective in the body at leaching then water. This is a fact often lost in the statistics and studies shown against the use of distilled water.

Distilled water also has a neutral ph. In other words, it has no effect (positive or negative) on the body’s chemical reactions; this is why science laboratories around the world use distillation as their preferred method of water purification. There is also evidence that distilled water absorbs CO2 from the air thus making is acidic; again a proper diet will easily offset this – if it where true. I have used a ph test strip after 3 hours of having the distilled water out (about how long it lasts here before making a new batch), I saw no change in ph. Again, this is a property that ALL water types have including many other liquids. You have to ask yourself why detractors hate distilled water so much yet make no statement regarding the acidity of carbonated drinks?

Distilled water is also blamed for disrupting the electrolyte balance of the body (sodium, potassium & chloride), true, distilled water lacks electrolytes but so what, since when is water your primary and sole source of electrolytes (much less minerals, vitamins etc.)? Eat food! If you are fasting or going without food for any length of time (ei: days), no matter the type of water you are using, you should supplement it by drinking something high in electrolytes. By the way, drinking regular water and even alcohol also reduces your electrolytes ;-)

Again, if all you do is drink distilled (or any other “type” of drink) without eating and/or a very poor diet to begin with, you will have health problems regardless. Pointing in the direction of distilled water as a factor in diseases like osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, hypothyroidism, coronary artery disease, high blood pressure (and the list continues) simply doesn’t hold water. If this was true, then why do people drinking “normal” water get these conditions as well? Mmmmm-.

Why are distillation systems so hard to find?

Simple answer is a 5-letter word that starts with G and finishes with D. Listen, if you could purchase 1 system and never need anything else for 10-15 years, those companies would go out of business. They push reverse osmosis (and other systems) for a reason; you need to keep coming in to purchase filters and equipment. If they try to pull this on you, go somewhere else – they don’t have your health in mind, only their bottom line.

One interesting fact you will notice is that the largest detractors of distilled water tend to have a vested interest in their own system or patents. If you want pure water, then get pure water – anything less is NOT pure water, it’s polluted.

Reading through distilled water detractors information you would think pure water was essentially a toxic substance and only “their” water was safe to drink. If they where so concerned about what you drink, why is there NO statement anywhere regarding the detrimental effects of alcohol consumption or to a far lesser extent, carbonated drinks?

The Bottom Line

If you want pure cheap water, get a distillation system. They range from a few hundred to a few thousand depending on the quality you need. For one person, a counter top version produces more then enough for cooking and drinking. Nothing comes close to the quality of water it produces short of mixing hydrogen gas with oxygen gas. From all that I have read, I have come to the conclusion with a good diet, distilled water is superior to “polluted” water in every way except one, the profit margins for other companies.

Additional Information
I have not cited any scientific studies regarding the effects of distilled water on the body, I consider them flawed and to narrow in scope as they do not take into account diet (before, during or after the study), exercise (amount or type) and medical history of the people involved. This is a HUGE and glaring hole in their methodology, enough to make them worthless in my opinion.

Plan your life before life plans you

Home Sweet HomeTime doesn’t wait for people who have passions in life. Thank God the average lifespan has almost doubled in the past 100 years, because the blink we exist within already goes way too fast! My father told me last summer he couldn’t believe how fast life goes… we both seem to suffer from the same condition!

The more involved you become with your life, the faster it seems to go. Exercise, business, relationships and even studies all have the ability to make the limited time you have- go even faster. This is not a bad thing, life is meant to be lived, but one side effect of enjoying life is that you have less time to contemplate on what has happened thus far. This is why daily, monthly and yearly plans in life are so important, it’s so easy to delay or forget things until it becomes too late to change course.

Plan your life before life plans you

You have two choices in regard to the limited time you have in your life. You can decide to take control over it or you can let events in your life take control over you. So much of our life is in the hands of others but in the end, you control either directly or indirectly where you end up in life. If you play an active role in your life, I believe your chances of ending up where you want to be instead of where others want you to be are much higher.

How to take control of your life?

Makes notes and checklists
I myself do a daily plan before going to bed at night, deciding what I want to accomplish the next day – a checklist. I find if I don’t do this, the next day easily goes bye without achieving much of what I wanted to do. I also do this for a monthly, quarterly and yearly so I am always heading towards what I want in life. Like Santa Clause, check them twice ;-)

The fortress of “ME”
If you believe in yourself, your abilities, genius and skills you will easily be able to fend off people and circumstances that can make your life plan go haywire or in the wrong direction. If you have friends who prefer to party or gossip and your goal is to one day be the CEO of a company, don’t participate in it. If they try to drag you into things, be strong enough to not only resist but say “NO”. Remember, you are always in control of yourself – don’t let others wrestle this away from you.

Develop kin relationships
You are what you hang around with – don’t waste your time doing things with people who do not have the same aspirations as you in life. There is a reason why lawyers hang around other lawyers, entrepreneurs with their kin and same goes with many other professions. It is because they all want to become the best at what they do and realized early on that you can’t do this by hanging around losers or people who do not share the same passion in life. I believe that quality friends and associates is far more important than quantity. Cut your losses with people who provide no benefit or means of helping you achieve your goals.

Focus
It is so easy to loose focus in life, planning ahead of time does help a lot but if those goals are all over the place, it\s just as useless as having none. If your goal is to be the best XYZ in the world, immerse yourself into it. You need to eat, sleep and drink your future self. If you focus on being NOW on who you want to become later, then later will come faster.

Fix boredom before it becomes depression
Boredom is an insidious condition caused by the inability of the mind to expand beyond itself. The brain is an incredible machine that has the ability to continually grow but if you always feed it the same information, I believe it begins to loose some of this ability. Scientists use to think the brain stopped becoming resilient shortly after adulthood’ termed “hardwired”. This has been proven to not be the case. If you find yourself bored with life, there is something you need to fix ASAP before depression sets in.

Contemplate
Time on is as important as time off – if you focus 100% on your future but don’t take some time off to review what you did for revisions or even better – completely away for a few days, you will go nuts! Focus takes it toll on you, be sure to take a breather every once in a while.

The Bottom line

You are in control of your lot in life. Develop contacts and circumstances that will allow you to reach your destiny and drop those that are dead weight before they drag you down.

Aging is a one-way road that begins upon conception and ends after death

Mortality sucks! My ultimate goal behind all this research I do for myfoodcount.com is seeing 2100, suffice it to say, I always look both sides of the road before crossing it. There are many theories behind what causes aging, but it’s most likely a combination of free radicals damaging our cells DNA, environmental degradation, UVA/UVB rays from the sun and “wear & tear.

All roads lead to Olderville

No matter the cause, it cannot be stopped nor reversed with current technologies. Let me repeat, aging CANNOT be stopped nor reversed. “Anti-Aging” products and pharmaceutical, either speed up natural processes or act as a masking agent. Sure, you may look or feel younger but I am sorry to say, all the roads lead to Olderville.

I don’t loose hope though, thankfully the baby boom generation ahead of me is spending billions of dollars on research and development regarding aging. This most likely won’t lead to the fountain of youth but will lead to medical breakthroughs that will allow my old wrinkled body be in better shape with an improved lifestyle – I will be sure not to throw away my hover-chair just incase ;-)

Grow old gracefully? No Way!

This is the message being beamed to baby boomers around the world, give me $$$ and I will make you “appear” younger. You need to face the reality that sooner or later you will look like your grandparents. There is also nothing “fun” about aging, who wants to end up with no hair on their head and more wrinkles on their body then their favorite shirt? But after anger and resentment comes acceptance- we all have to deal with our own mortality – rest assured that you are not alone.

You have the power to slow down aging

The good news is that the aging process can be slowed down. Anybody can do it and it won’t cost you a thing! Although you are never too old to make lifestyle changes, remember that the process of aging is cumulative, the sooner you start (now is a fantastic time), the more dramatic the effect later in life.

Limit sun exposure
Studies have shown UVA and UVB rays from the sun cause cell damage, leading to wrinkles, spots and possibly skin cancer. Don’t avoid the sun but don’t worship it either. Stay out of the sun during peak output (usually between 10am and 4pm). Keep in mind that the fairer your skin, the more susceptible you are to the suns damaging rays.

Clean up your diet
A fresh, high fiber diet free of processed foods will not put far less stress on your internal organs but make you feel far better and save you a lot of money. A simple rule of thumb is if you have to think about what an ingredient is – don’t buy it. Treat your body like a temple, not a trash can.

Relax
Stress has been shown in study after study to speed up the aging process, both mental and physical. Take a deep breath, you are not alone with what ever problem you may have.

Exercise
Taking a walk is nice, but weight training is where it’s at. A strong body allows your immune system to become more efficient and effective, helping to fight disease. Exercise also improves blood circulation, chemical reactions and helps fight calcium & muscle wasting in older age.

Hydration
You want to know the secret as to why 99.9% of the products you buy actually minimize the appearance of wrinkles? Hydration. Drop the sugar cocktails and drink the really good stuff- Water! Your body will naturally redistribute it to where it is needed and don’t forget, your body needs abundant water intake to keep it running efficiently.

Enjoy yourself
A positive attitude and outlook on life will do wonders for your energy and mental health. If you don’t like your job, quit. If you want to go on a vacation, leave- if you are sick of a relationship you are in, divorce! Life is way too short to spend any of it in a miserable state.

The Bottom Line

Now, you may say- “I use XYZ product- ” or “that is way too easy”, for the first question read the second paragraph again, for the second – I am happy you find it so easy- so do it!

My experiences with Demerol (Meperidine)

Demerol... only fun for a day... then it becomes a trapA few years back during a very stressful time in my life when it seems everything was going the wrong way, my appendix decided it had enough and wanted out of my body. After a night of vomiting and a general feeling of being hung over, I visited the doctor in the morning and asked him what was wrong. It took him about 10 seconds to tell I had appendicitis and to head to the hospital.

Once at the hospital, I was brought into the back where all the other sick people where and put on IV, later that night I was in the surgery room – my appendix got its wish. This was my first time in surgery so I figured I would try to fight off the anesthetic they gave me, so I cracked a joke to the doctor and about 1 second later I was waking up. I asked the nurse what happened and she said surgery was done, I didn’t believe her so she told me to check and surely enough, it was done.

Introduction to an opiate

I woke up the next day, not sure when but feeling so tired even though I slept all night. I asked the nurse if this was normal and she told me it was because I was on alternating IVs of antibiotics and an opioid called demerol (meperidine). I figured since I was in the hospital, I might as well experiment so I asked the nurse if she could hook me up with some morphine, I was curious about it but she told me Demerol produced similar results with less side effects. My experimentation was over and my curiosity was satisfied.

I think I was in the hospital for a total of 3 days, sometimes very alert and other times just drifting in and out of consciousness. It was a weird state, people would come visit me and I would fall asleep when I wanted to talk to them or I would try to say something but I could barely muster the strength to say it loud enough.

Suffice it to say, after 3 days being drugged at the hospital I couldn’t wait to get out. I was walking a little bit but I generally didn’t feel myself at all, I hate being in a hospital and even worse when I am a patient. Thankfully, I haven’t returned as neither since.

Second hit of opiate

About a year ago, I went in for a colonoscopy to check a few things out, the doctor who was performing the procedure mentioned the word Demerol to me for pain management but at first I refused. Around the end of the procedure, I told the doc to inject me, as I wasn’t feeling very well with too much hose up inside of me. Right after the injection, I felt very easy going – the stress just melted away and I was very relaxed.

Am I hooked?

From my two experiences with a mild opiate thus far in my life, I can easily say NO. It is probably safe to say that heroin, oxycodone (oxyContin), methadone (dolophine), morphine sulfateand and all those other opioids out there probably have a much stronger effect on the mind/ body then demerol. But for me, I actually enjoy knowing what is going on in my body, not somewhat spaced out. I enjoy the process of thinking clearly.

If you suffer from chronic pain, I can completely see the reason why opiates would be an attractive venture but if your perfectly healthy, I fail to see the point.

The Bottom Line

I can’t fathom the attraction to being strung out like I was for 3 days at the hospital and calling that a life. My two sisters seem to, and it even cost one of them their life, but I guess that I either physical or mental block as to craving or wanting that type of lifestyle. That is a good thing
