Vital Organs: The Heart
Monday, November 28th, 2005
Your entire adult life is possible thanks to an organ about the size of two tennis balls located just off centre in your chest. You can easily live without an Appendix, some disability begins to occur if you loose one of your Lungs, Kidneys, Intestines, Liver - you can even live a full life without an gall bladder- but you absolutely cannot live without a heart. This is why the Heart is considered a vital organ.
Why is a heart so important? Well without it, there wouldn’t be any blood flow within your body. Why is blood flow important? Because it’s the only way for your body to provide billions of cells with oxygen, waste disposal, communication and much more. Blood flow is as important in your body as water flow is on Earth.
Nothing can drop you faster then a heart that stops functioning or begins to act erratically, every aspect of your life, from sleeping to cooking diner requires a properly functioning heart. So why do many people take their heart for granted by smoking, eating a bad diet, not exercising- and allowing themselves to become obese?
Browsing CDC reports, there where more then half a million deaths in 2002 attributed by heart problems in the USA. Some are influenced by genetics, others by age and even social-economic background but regardless, knowledge is key to prevention. Eat a well balanced diet, exercise regularly, watch your BMI and most importantly, get yourself checked up regularly by a doctor.
The one cool thing about taking care of your heart is that directly benefits your entire body, every cell in your body will thank you with interest. So stop reading this and get that heart of your pumping!
For a long time, since I was a kid, I always saw things differently then anybody else around me. While my friends where out partying, getting jobs and getting themselves into the predictable mold that society expects from its citizens, I was tending my internal gardens. For instance, while my friends where out partying, I was too busy teaching myself 3D animation, getting a commercial pilot license, achieving a black belt in Karate- even receiving my open water certificate in scuba diving among many other things. I didn’t understand why I was this way, my parents where always there for me and supported me but I never had any desire for an ordinary 9-5 life that my friends so wanted.
The mouth is the gateway to health in two major ways, obviously the first one is nutrient acquisition so your body can function. But another aspect that is often overlooked is how it acts as a highway for bacteria, viruses and other baddies directly into your bloodstream.
Although education is slowly getting through the ranks- this is a commonly health belief among a lot of woman and one of the reasons many women do not exercise, cardio and certainly not strength training.
