Slow metabolism is a false excuse! This is a common myths that people trying to struggle with their obesity use as an excuse for not seeing the results they want and not making REAL lifestyle changes in their life.

I hear it repeated over and over in forums is that people have trouble loosing weight because they “suffer from a slow metabolism”. Although there are genetic factors that may cause this to be true in the vast majority of obese people, it’s actually the opposite - they suffer from a fast metabolism. Let me explain, in column A you have a building with 50 tenants, in column B you have a building with 500 tenants - which will have the larger energy bill? Well with all other things being equal, the larger building will have a higher energy demands then the smaller one. The same is true for humans! An obese person will have a higher energy requirement generally then somebody who isn’t obese with all things being equal. Remember, there are two types of metabolism, constructive which is the building bodily tissues and destructive which is their breakdown, an obese person has thus more to build and destroy metabolically speaking then somebody with less relative tissue mass.

Your next question will be - how come the smaller guy isn’t obese then? Often it comes down to diet and exercise, its no secret that many obese people lead a sedentary life with an unhealthy diet. You see, gaining and loosing weight is the same for almost everybody, you gain weight if you eat more then you burn and you loose weight if you burn more then you eat. Obese people just have habits that cause them to eat more then they burn. Of course, there are medications, health conditions and a host of other reasons why obesity exists which cannot nor should not be discounted but visit your doctor and develop a plan you can live with within your health goals.
