Choose your Destiny
Although I am by no way the exception, I am part of a small club of people who have never had a job in their life! No- I wasn’t blessed with rich parents or a huge inheritance - my parents gave me something far more powerful- something that everybody in this world has but few use- ambition to choose your own destiny.
As with anything in life, you reap what you sow - this is especially true with running your own ventures. The life of an entrepreneur isn’t sitting on a yacht figuring which vacation spot you will hit next, it’s about marketing and persistence (yacht comes later if you’re successful). But let one thing be sure, if you don’t believe 200% in what you are doing, you won’t last very long. Most people live their entire lives in a fish bowl, protected from outside forces with their “guaranteed” income. Employees may work long hours, sacrifice time with the kids but at the end of the day, they have relative stability as long as they generate more income then they take out of a company.
For entrepreneurs, your income is tied directly with your success. It is a constant struggle that employees never see and would drive many to go insane. One month you can be up, the other your down with very little warning. For instance, you may have payroll due tomorrow but the clients whose money you where counting on won’t be in until next week- what do you do? Telling your employees “I can’t pay you this week but I can next week” will cause 3 sets of even bigger problems:
- it’s illegal, last thing entrepreneurs need is government / social agencies after them
- employee morale will drop, affecting future productivity
- your personal reputation will suffer (word of mouth travels fast)
Easiest solution is to go into your War Chest, borrow against your assets or use credit cards. I hope this gives you a glimpse into the other side of life - sure it can be stressful but at the end of the day, I would prefer to have power over my destiny.
